Why recurring instead of one-time?
A one-time treatment handles what's already made its way inside, but it doesn't touch the source. Pest populations keep growing outside and nearby, so without ongoing treatment they just find their way back in. Recurring visits keep the population low year round so they never get the foothold to become a bigger problem.
